Kara Water has developed patented technology that transforms air into safe drinking water.
It’s taken this technology and created a line of products for use in homes, offices, and commercial spaces. The Kara Pure 2 is a second-generation version of its inaugural water station. And the Kara Pod is a dual-purpose self-refilling coffee maker and water dispenser.
Kara is targeting the $348 billion market for bottled water, as well as the thirty-eight-billion-dollar market for coffee pods.
Around the world, two billion people lack access to safe drinking water. This includes more than two million in the U.S.
But with Kara’s products, you don’t even need plumbing access to use them. All you need is air — just plug in the system and you’re all set.
This company was inspired by a desert beetle known as Stenocara Gracilipes that turns air into water using its shell. This beetle captures water vapor in the air onto its shell. And once enough is caught, the beetle stands on its head and drinks the water from its back. The shell of this beetle uses Van Der Wahl Forces to physically attract the water in the air to the surface and holds it there.
Kara replicates this process to provide users with healthy, safe, reliable drinking water.
This company’s Pure system was named a TIME Best Invention in 2022. And Kara won CES Innovation Awards in 2023 and 2025.
Notable clients include Moen, Hyatt, IKEA, and Samsung. And Kara has generated $2.2 million in sales to-date, including $820,000 in 2024.
Kara has a partnership in progress with wholesale club Costco and established an account to sell its systems on Wayfair, an e-commerce marketplace. Discussions are also ongoing to participate in BestBuy Canada’s online marketplace.
